Gmail and Yahoo Mail Settings on Nokia Phones

You can retrieve your Gmail messages with Nokia phone. You can choose either IMAP or POP3 protocol.

IMAP offers several advantages over POP, you can store the email data on Gmail server so you can synchronize with multiple clients, it has better functionality in manipulating inbox, and the ability to manage email folders within single account.

POP is designed to offer simple offline operations, it downloads email to the phone, and generally removing it from the Gmail server, it doesn’t support email folders.

IMAP

Before you can use email on your phone you must enable IMAP in Gmail:

  1. Sign in to Gmail.
  2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
  3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
  4. Select Enable IMAP.
  5. Configure your IMAP client and click Save Changes.

Now configure your phone:

  1. Select ‘Messaging’ > ‘Options’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘E-mail’ > ‘Mailboxes’.
    If you have never set up email on your phone before, select ‘Yes’ to define a new mailbox. If you already have other mailboxes, select ‘Options’ and then ‘New mailbox’.
  2. Select ‘Start’ to begin the setup wizard.
  3. Select ‘IMAP4′ and then ‘Next’.
  4. Enter your full email address (including ‘@gmail.com’) as the email address and select ‘Next’. Google Apps users, enter your full address in the format ‘username@your_domain.com’.
  5. Enter ‘imap.gmail.com’ as the incoming mail server and select ‘Next’.
  6. Enter ’smtp.gmail.com’ as the outgoing mail server and select ‘Next’.
  7. Select the appropriate access point and then ‘Next’.
  8. Enter a descriptive name for the email account mailbox name.
  9. Once your mailbox is set up, select it from the email mailbox settings screen.
  10. Select ‘Connection settings’ > ‘Incoming e-mail’.
  11. Enter your address (including ‘@gmail.com’ or ‘@your_domain.com’) and password.
  12. Select ‘SSL/TLS’ for your security (ports) and define your port as ‘993′.
  13. Select ‘Back’.
  14. Select ‘Outgoing e-mail’.
  15. Enter your email address (including ‘@gmail.com’ or ‘@your_domain.com’) and password.
  16. Select ‘StartTLS’ for your security (ports) and define your port as ‘587′.
  17. Select ‘Back’ and change any other settings according to your preferences.

Internet Radio on Nokia Phones

Nokia released Internet Radio, a symbian software to listen live internet radio. It is fully working on Nokia S60 devices. It comes with a huge directory of compatible radio stations.

The application supports SHOUTcast streaming audio playback (MP3 and AAC+). It also supports local playback of audio files in the following formats: MP3, AAC, eAAC+, MP4, M4A, WMA, 3GPP, AMR, and WAV.

Free Phone Calls using VoIP Rakyat on Nokia Phones

With Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) you can talk to your friends all accross the world for free. VoIP call sound quality is just as good as regular phone calls, you won’t notice the differences. All you need is a phone with VoIP support.

You can call someone on a computer or other VoIP device phone number without extra cost. However, if you call a local public telephone or mobile phone, your VoIP call data must be redirected to a regular telephone signal, which usually needs a subscription cost.

New Firmware v30.0.018 for Nokia N82 Released

After Nokia N95-1 and N95-2 (8GB) gets its new v30 firmware update, Nokia also released the v30 firmware for N82. The new firmware is available through Nokia Software Updater.

The bad news is that this firmware is NOT HACKABLE, confirmed that Hello Carbide method is not working, so think twice before updating.

Monitoring Traffic in Jakarta

Traffic jam always been a big problem for many big cities like Jakarta, especially between 8 am to 9 pm (start office hour) and 5 pm to 20 pm (end office hour). But if you have Internet connection in your hand, you can check which way you need to choose to reach your destination. Some traffic service were available to help you, Direktorat Lalu Lintas Jakarta have form a division Traffic Management Centre (TMC). TMC open free call service 112, SMS 1717, and a call center (021-5276001), to provide information about traffic. To monitor traffic in the city, the TMC has installed 60 CCTV cameras around the capital. The views captured by the cameras are displayed on a big screen at the TMC office.

Jendela Jakarta, is another service which offers you live traffic monitor through their website. They also give access via mobile phone with subscribe cost (Rp. 2000,- / 250 minutes – for 7 days). To access via mobile you must download their Java Application first.

Use Your Phone as an External GPS Device
